Dear Rotarian Curlers,
Rotary World Curling Championships, Dumfries 2022
The organising committee is pleased to announce after many months of planning that the webpage is now live and ready to accept your entries for the World Championships in Dumfries, 8 –15 April 2022. The link to the webpage is icurfr.co.uk . Entries are open for both the Championship and Friendship competitions.
The committee has decided that, in light of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Covid 19, teams and their partners and guests will not be asked for the full registration fee at this time, but instead will be asked for a £25 per person non-refundable deposit once they have submitted all their registration details via the webpage. The committee will use the deposits to pay the costs incurred in setting up the Championships, which we have strived to keep to a minimum. Any residue will be rolled over if the Championships were to be rescheduled or in the event that they were not, the committee will donate the residue to local charities. Our treasurer will email the entrants in February and if everything looks set to proceed with the Championships he will ask for the balance of the registration fee which can be paid in the same manner as the deposit through PayPal. Banquets etc are included in the registration fee so we would encourage all partners and guests to attend as I am sure they will find them different and very enjoyable.
We also have a very attractive programme for partners and guests with all the information and ability to book contained within our webpage menu. The committee has been working hard to ensure that the Championships are a very special and enjoyable week for curlers and non-curlers alike. Owing to recent developments in the Covid 19 pandemic we must acknowledge the possibility that the Championships may not be able to proceed. The committee is intent on holding the Championships and will only consider cancellation if Government Guidelines dictate events of this type cannot take place or there are insufficient entries
Accommodation:- We have reserved rooms and agreed rates with four Hotels they are all of a good standard and are listed with full contact details on our webpage. Please book directly with your chosen Hotel and check cancellation policies/deposits etc, as far as we are aware none are asking for deposits. All Banquets will be held in the Cairndale Hotel which is a twenty minute walk from the Ice Rink. Hamilton House is a twenty-five minute walk from the Ice Rink and a five minute walk from the Cairndale Hotel. The Holiday Inn is a forty minute walk from the Ice Rink and a thirty minute walk from the Cairndale Hotel. The Edenbank Hotel is a five minute walk from the Ice Rink and a twenty-five minute walk from the Cairndale Hotel. There will be a transfer Bus from the Cairndale Hotel and Holiday Inn to the Ice Bowl, for the first and second draws and will be available for returning after Curling. Curlers staying at Hamilton House can catch the Bus at the Cairndale Hotel.
Covid 19: At the time of writing curling has been unaffected by the recent temporary tightening of restrictions in the UK. The Government has made clear that the tightening is to try and slow the spread of the Omicron variant, to allow more people to come under the protection of their third booster vaccination and also to evaluate this variant’s severity. The UK Government is accelerating the third booster dose, working down through the age groups, so hopefully that will have a positive impact on keeping the disease at bay. We will be following all Government Guidelines during the Championships and will require competitors to do likewise.
To summarise, the committee is looking forward to welcoming curlers, partners and guests to Dumfries next April to take part in what we think will be a really special week. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any further information.
Best wishes to everyone over the Festive period, from the organising committee here in Dumfries.
